A new type of nuclear power technology — small modular reactors that promise to produce carbon-neutral energy more safely and efficiently than traditional nuclear power plants — is becoming closer to a reality as a handful of companies push to overcome key regulatory hurdles.

Annova LNG on Jan. 22 signed a “precedent agreement” with Enbridge, builder and operator of Valley Crossing Pipeline, to provide natural gas to Annova’s proposed liquefied natural gas facility at the Port of Brownsville.

Coastal GasLink said in a statement Monday it will hold safety refresher meetings for construction crews on Tuesday and Wednesday, but clearing and other work activities are expected to continue this week, including delivery of pipeline materials.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to the global market and pipeline exports to Mexico are the main forces behind KMI’s $2.8 billion backlog of gas projects in North America, Kean told the Wells Fargo Securities Midstream and Utility Symposium.

“Although Kitimat LNG is a globally competitive LNG project, the strength of Chevron Corporation’s global portfolio of investment opportunities is such that the Kitimat LNG Project will not be funded by Chevron and may be of higher value to another company,” the company said on Tuesday.
